Rockaway New York

Raised $1400

April 16, 2002

Dear Julie & Friends,

On behalf of the Rockaway, New York community, thank you so very much for your incredible contribution to our permanent tribute. As per our discussions, this money will be earmarked for a ‘living tribute’ in the form of trees and other appropriate shrubbery, all of which will be selected to withstand the ocean climate.

Your donation came at a wonderful time, too. We are just in the process of applying for a ‘matching funds’ grant from the U.S. Forest Service for living tributes. Our community was, I believe, the hardest hit per capita than anywhere else in the WTC attack which will give us a bit of an edge when applying for these funds. Your generous donation, coupled with several others we have received, will be used as the matching funds, the end result we hope, will be a wonderful row of beautiful trees and plantings far more splended than we could have ever imagined.

Perhaps equal to the financial contribution were the wonderful included notes. I am going to submit them to the local paper so they can be published along with a press release informing our community of your generosity. You cannot imagine how comforting notes such as these are to us. We often stand so alone here – we are isolated geographically on the peninsula – that to read the warmth and greetings of friendship from Colorado is something we treasure.

Again, Julie, the contribution will never be forgotten. In the future, each time I see a tree in our “Tribute Park’, I will think of you and the wonderful people with whom you worked in Colorado to be able to give so generously.

Your kindness, sincerity, generosity and expression of friendship will never be forgotten here in Rockaway. Many, many thanks.

Very truly yours,

Liz Sulik, Executive Director
