Colfax Community Network

The mission of Colfax Community Network (CNN) is to provide information, services and programs that will strengthen and improve family and community life for children and families who reside in low-income, transient housing, primarily residential motels, along Colfax Avenue.

Many families in metropolitan Denver resort to motel living as a temporary solution to homelessness. While motels do provide immediate shelther, the high cost of motel rent and the inability to secure the necesary funds for permanent housing often hold families in the “motel trap”.

Overcrowding, poor sanitation, inadequate kitchen facilities and lack of safety create tremendous stress for these families. Children suffer in this environment, dramatically increasing their chances of poor health, low self-esteem, school failure, gang involvement, and violent victimization.

There are currently five programs developed and implemented by CCN. They are the Access to Services Project, the After School and Summer Camp programs, Emergency Services Program, Family Nights, and the Housing Partnership Program. The new program that we will help fund is the Mother/Tot group.

CCN’s goal is to create a safe place where children can come to learn and grow, to feel rooted, nurtured and motivated. A place where parents are offered the tools they need to provide or their family’s physical and emotional well-being. A place the community can call it’s own.
